Your iPhone can show your medical info on lockscreen – how to save your own life

The feature can help ambulance staff access your medical info in an emergency without needing your iPhone passcode

YOUR iPhone's Health app has a built-in feature that can alert ambulance staff and emergency services to life-saving info about your allergies and medical conditions, even when your phone is locked.

It can also notify them of other vital information about you like your blood type and who to contact in a critical situation – all without the need to enter your passcode.

The option is called Medical ID and here's how you can enable it.

Set up your Medical ID on iPhone

Create your Medical ID:

Open Health and tap Medical ID > Edit.
Enter your emergency contacts and health information like your birth date, height, and blood type.
Turn on Show When Locked to make your Medical ID available from the Lock screen. In an emergency, this gives people who want to help some important information, like the emergency contacts that you've entered.
When you're finished, tap Done.

Now, when your iPhone is locked, a member of the emergency services will be able to access the info by pressing the Home button, tapping Emergency, and selecting Medical ID at the bottom left of the screen.

Apple also recently introduced a new Emergency SOS feature that shares your real-time location with the police or ambulance after you call them up.

And the company is adding a bunch of helpful features as part of its major iOS 12 update this Autumn.

This includies new digital wellbeing options to get you to use your phone less.
